Dr. Mikal Bell has been happily married for 18 years and is a proud father of two. He is a Captain (CPT) in the US Army Reserves and has been serving in the military for over 20 years. After completing his Baccalaureate of Science in Physics from Chicago State University, he went on to work at Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway as a Locomotive Foreman. Dr. Bell worked there for 9 years.
During that time he was mobilized with the Army Reserves for 5 years under Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Noble Eagle (ONE) in support of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT). Upon his return home, Dr. Bell went back to school to complete the requirements for Dental School and enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Chicago. In 2013, he began dental school at Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Dental Medicine (SDM).
Dr. Bell was very active while in dental school where he participated in several extracurricular activities to include being President of the Tri Service military club that helped raise $17,000 to provide dental care to homeless veterans in the greater St. Louis area. He was also the student delegate for the Illinois State Dental Society. Dr. Bell has also participated in four humanitarian missions, one to El Salvador, one to Honduras and two to Jamaica where free dental care was provided. Dr. Bell continues to volunteer his time mentoring youth from middle school to the collegiate level.
